Incorporating Botox® into Your Regular Beauty Routine

If you’re dismayed when you see lines and ridges on your face that weren’t there yesterday, it may be time to consider Botox® Cosmetic. Over seven million people had a Botox procedure in 2017, and the number of men getting Botox has jumped 27 percent since 2010. Men as well as women, want to look their best.

Botox is the most popular of all minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, which also includes chemical peels, fillers, and dermabrasion. It was the first FDA-approved procedure to temporarily remove frown lines and crow’s feet — the lines around your eyes, and it’s the most popular because it’s a quick, in-office procedure with no recovery time.

At Hanami MedSpa you’ll consult with Dr. Elaine Phuah, a board-certified physician and a diplomat of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. She has administered hundreds of Botox injections. You’re in safe hands.

How does Botox work?

Every time you smile or frown, your facial muscles contract. You smile and frown millions of times during your life, so it’s not surprising that lines begin to form in the areas where your muscles contract the most. Botox injections block your nerves from sending signals to your muscles. Therefore, those facial muscles don’t contract. Your fine lines and wrinkles aren’t as pronounced, creating a more youthful appearance.

How is Botox administered?

Dr. Phuah marks the muscles on the sides of your eyes and between your brows if you want both of those areas done. She administers Botox as an injection; it’s contained a syringe with saline solution. She makes several injections into specific muscles on the sides of your eyes and between your brows.

When do I see results?

Most people see results in four to seven days. Results may last up to three months if your lines are moderate to severe and longer if your lines are mild.

What should I know before getting Botox?

Pregnant and nursing women should not use Botox. Don’t drink alcohol a week prior to your treatment. Avoid anticoagulants such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Dr. Phuah provides complete instructions prior to your Botox procedure.

Is Botox safe?

Botox has been studied for more than a decade and a half and is the topic of more than 500 peer-reviewed studies. Millions of people have had the procedure with no ill effects. Side effects are rare, and Dr. Phuah can discuss these with you. As a board-certified physician, Dr. Phuah uses only certified Botox Cosmetic and FDA-approved botulinum toxin. As with other products in the beauty market, there are knock-offs, and you’ll need to make sure to avoid those.

Are repeated Botox injections safe?

Botox isn’t a permanent procedure. Its effects last several months. For your first treatment, Dr. Phuah is likely to begin with a small dosage to ensure that you tolerate the treatment well. Once she sees that you have a healthy response, she can determine the correct dosage for repeat appointments.

To maintain your results, you’ll need to repeat treatments, and Dr. Phuah will let you know what schedule is optimal for you. This way, you can incorporate Botox into your regular beauty routine.
